Welcome to my homesteading & simple living blog. I am a SAHM with 2 young children (late in life blessings) still at home. My darling husband is a truck driver. We own a small rural property which we are slowly developing into an off-grid homestead.
I was raised in the East with neighbors who were Old Order Amish, aka the Horse & Buggy Amish. From them, along with my father and paternal grandma, I learned much about how old fashioned methods can be done today.
Why Simplicity by Choice? It is a lifestyle that is much less stressful to me that using modern conveniences. Days have a rhythm to them that I have never found in any other way. This lifestyle wasn’t one that was forced upon us, but with the Lord’s leading, we were gently guided to pursue it. As we walk this path, our relationship with the Lord, as well as within our family, is strengthened. Outside distractions, such as TV, are not interfering with our time together. It also provides us the blessing of a true communion with the Lord as we have to trust in Him to do His part in providing for us. Whether through rain for the garden, a bountiful harvest, or simply good health, the Lord’s grace and blessing is what allows us to continue this lifestyle.
I love this lifestyle and find it very rewarding. I found that many people are curious about the old fashioned ways and how we manage to do them in spite of not having grown up Amish ourselves. Through the blog, I hope to share light into this area. With financial issues abounding in society, it seems that the old ways are beginning to make a comeback. At the very least, there is a resurgence of interest in gaining the knowledge just in case it is needed. Maybe the writings that I share here in the blog can help to inspire others.
We homeschool the children, I have a blog about homeschooling and autism at Our Prairie Home.
